On Sunday night, John Butler Trio returned to Red Rocks Amphitheatre with support from Tash Sultana and Mama Kin Spender, the latter featuring Tommy Spender and Butler’s wife, Danielle Caruana. The beloved Australian trio–recently expanded for the summer with 2 new members, adding keys and percussion–has a long-standing history with the famed outdoor venue in Morrison, Colorado, recording their fourth live album, Live At Red Rocks, in 2010.

Unfortunately, John Butler Trio’s performance was delayed following an unforeseen technical issue, though the venue extended the curfew, much to the delight of eager fans ready to see the group that has become somewhat of a rarity live in the US. During the show, John Butler Trio offered up a number of classic cuts, including the beloved tune, “Ocean”, which fell in the middle of the set, and a set-closing rendition of “Zebra” off 2004’s Sunrise Over Sea.
