John Frusciante has released two new singles, “Amb” and “Brise”, from his solo project, Trickfinger. The two songs will appear on a new LP, She Smiles Because She Presses The Button, available June 5th.
For anyone looking for Red Hot Chili Peppers-inspired guitar work, Trickfinger isn’t it. This electronic side project from the once-again current RHCP guitarist is a complete departure from the musician’s alt-rock body of work. She Smiles Because She Presses The Button leads off with “Amb”, followed by “Brise”, leaving four more tracks to be released.
The album’s lead track, “Amb”, features rapid-fire clicks and some minor percussive experimentation. This somewhat cold calculation of clicks and claps is livened up with a rising and falling keyboard that adds some warmth and color to the track. On the other hand, “Brise” is the comparatively brighter track, featuring an 8-bit feel accented by similar rapid-fire stylings of “Amb”, only this time applied to keyboards. Neither songs really feature much of a build or climax, but rather continue a steady path forward, stopping to explore new territory on the way.

Trickfinger – She Smiles Because She Presses The Button
In addition to She Smiles Because She Presses The Button, John Frusciante has also announced that there will be another Trickfinger LP available later this year. The title and release date of that album is still unknown, but stay tuned to the musician’s website for any updates. Meanwhile, Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to begin a world tour starting on June 5th (the same day Trickfinger’s album is set to release) with a concert at Ejket Festival in Athens, Greece. Given the tumultuous state of the live music industry due to COVID-19, however, the fate of that concert and the proceeding tour are very much in question. Head to the band’s website for any announcements.
