The estate of John Lennon has announced a forthcoming deluxe box set featuring over 30 songs from his beloved solo catalog to help celebrate what would have been the famous musician’s 80th birthday this year.

Gimme Some Truth. The Ultimate Mixes is due out on October 9th (Lennon’s birthday) via Capitol/Universal Music, and will feature 36 remixed recordings pulled from the original master tapes in HD Stereo and immersive 5.1 surround sound on two CDs and Blu-Ray audio disc. The deluxe edition will also include a 124-page collectors book, a fold-out Poster, two postcards, and a bumper sticker. Other editions of the release include 36 tracks on either 2CD or 4LP Box Set, or 19 tracks on either 1CD or 2LP.

The project was executive produced by Yoko Ono Lennon, along with their son and accomplished rock musician Sean Ono Lennon. According to the announcement, the 36 songs hand-picked by the two were completely remixed and remastered from scratch using brand new transfers of the original multi-tracks with vintage analog equipment at Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles and Abbey Road Studios in London.

The 124-page book was designed and edited by Simon Hilton, and will provide visual narrative alongside the music in John and Yoko’s words, along with the words of those who worked with them in Lennon’s post-Beatles years. The book will include a mix of archival and brand-new interviews, along with hundreds of previously-unseen photographs, Polaroids, movie still frames, letters, lyric sheets, tape boxes, artworks, and memorabilia pulled from the Lennon-Ono archives.

A statement on Lennon’s website reads, “GIMME SOME TRUTH. – named for Lennon’s 1971 excoriating rebuke of deceptive politicians, hypocrisy and war, a sentiment as relevant as ever in our post-truth era of fake news.”

Yoko Ono Lennon also added with the announcement in saying, “John was a brilliant man with a great sense of humour and understanding. He believed in being truthful and that the power of the people will change the world. And it will. All of us have the responsibility to visualize a better world for ourselves and our children. The truth is what we create. It’s in our hands.”
