On Monday, Relix premiered an archival video of Buddy GuyJohn MayerPhil Lesh, and Questlove playing “Hoochie Coochie Man” live at the 2005 Jammy Awards. The Willie Dixon-penned blues classic, originally recorded by Muddy Waters, has been covered by countless artists over the years, from the Allman Brothers Band to Eric Clapton to Steppenwolf to Buddy Guy himself.

Buddy Guy sang this rendition emphatically and provided rhythm and lead parts to go along with Mayer’s blues licks. Of course, Lesh (bass) and Questlove (drums) provided the ever-important steady blues pocket. You can watch the pro-shot video from the 2005 Jammy Awards below:

The 2005 event was co-hosted by Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh and marked the fifth-annual edition of the Jammy Awards. Dean Budnick and Peter Shapiro developed the awards show, which recognized the achievements of jam bands and improvisational musicians. Buddy Guy won a “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the event, while the newly announced FloydFest 2020 headliners, Umphrey’s McGee, won “Song of the Year” for “In the Kitchen”. Phish was another notable winner at the 2005 Jammys, where they took home the award for “Tour of the Year” for their 2004 Summer Tour.
