On Tuesday night, neo-soul and gospel torch-bearer Leon Bridges brought his 2018 headlining tour to Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre. Following the release of his new album, Good Thing, released this past May via Columbia Records, Leon Bridges announced an extensive tour with supporting acts including Jon Batiste and Stay Human, Masego, and Khruangbin.

The young artist is certainly rising to fame thanks to his gorgeous, silky voice paired with his consistently nostalgic and longing sound, and for months now, guitarist and fellow love-songwriter John Mayer has spoken up about his appreciation for Leon Bridges’ work on his own social media rants.

The two artists finally crossed paths on Tuesday, September 11th, after an opening performance from Thai funk trio Khruangbin. During his headlining set, Bridges invited Mayer to join him on stage for a heart-wrenching cover of “Mrs.” from Good Thing. John Mayer, who recently wrapped up a huge summer tour with Dead & Company, arrived in his pajamas–playing off Bridges’ band to create a blues-tinged version of the song that will not soon be forgotten. Goosebumps spread across the stage as Mayer went toe-to-toe with Bridges’ guitar player, and then with Leon himself. When Mayer took his solo, at the 3:40 mark in the video below, the audience erupted. You can watch fan-shot footage of the collaboration below:
