John Mayer was one of the many accomplished musicians who took part in PRS Guitars‘ 2021 Launch Party webcast on Thursday, where the Dead & Company guitarist revealed his latest signature model with the popular brand.
Dubbed “Lunar Ice”, Mayer’s new signature PRS is based on his Silver Sky model, and comes in an absolutely stunning gradient color scheme of blue fading into purple as part of its polychromatic “flip-flop” finish (meaning the body reflects light differently when seen from different angles). Only 1,000 Lunar Ice guitars will be sold around the country, and will likely have a slighty higher price tag.
“I gravitate towards interesting finishes,” Mayer said during the broadcast when talking about his new signature instrument. “Like if your mind starts moving on it you think of the bowling ball finish, or like the swirl paint. Those kinds of things have always intrigued me and they make sense as limited edition guitars.”
Hosted by company founder and technology genius Paul Reed Smith, the three-hour virtual event also featured notable artist appearances and interviews with Jimmy Herring (Widespread Panic), Mark Lettieri (Snarky Puppy), David Grissom (John Mellencamp), Mark Tremonti (Alter Bridge), Zach Myers (Shinedown), and more.
