Journeyman singer/songwriter John Prine will headline Morrison, Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre next summer, along with special guests the Colorado Symphony and I’m With Her. The one-night event will take place at the picturesque outdoor venue on Sunday, July 28th, and is the first summer 2019 concert scheduled for the veteran performer. All-female folk supergroup I’m With Her will serve as the evening’s support.
The upcoming performance will not be the first time that a non-classical artist plays alongside the Colorado Symphony at Red Rocks. This past year saw the Symphony team up with artists including Seal and Sarah McLachlan for some unique crossover performances, in addition to hosting their own headlining event in late May. Monday’s announcement didn’t reveal whether or not Prine and the Symphony would be playing material specifically from his latest album, The Tree of Forgiveness, or songs from his career catalogue, but whatever the setlist includes, fans should be prepared for a wonderful night of music under the summer stars.
Prine turned 72-years-young this past October, and has had the opportunity to celebrate his musical journey with his fans throughout his ongoing fall tour. Shortly after his birthday, Prine teamed up with Bob Weir, Lucinda Williams, and more for the “Across The Great Divide” Benefit Concert in Los Angeles. More recently, Prine was announced as a 2019 nominee for both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as well as the Songwriters Hall Of Fame. He was also the featured interview subject on a recent episode of “CBS Sunday Morning,” where he regaled viewers with his impressive career journey from a Chicago mailman to a Hall of Fame songwriter and performer.
