Legendary singer-songwriter John Prine has been back in the spotlight of late. In April, Prine released The Tree of Forgiveness, his first album of new material in 13 years. The ten-track LP was produced by Nashville vet Dave Cobb, who also served as the producer for recent records from Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, and more. Today, John Prine becomes the latest artist to throw their hat in the ring for the ongoing Spotify Singles series, which typically sees musicians record one of their own songs as well as a cover of a song they love for a special release via the global streaming platform.
For his Nashville Spotify Singles session, recorded at RCA Studio A, where he laid down The Tree of Forgiveness, John Prine opted to record a beautiful acoustic take on classic Stevie Wonder ballad “I Just Called To Say I Love You” in addition to a rendition of “I Have Met My Love Today”, initially released as part of his 2018 album, The Tree of Forgiveness.
