[UPDATE 5/28/22]: The long-awaited You Got Gold John Prine tribute concerts will occur October 7th–12th, 2022 in Nashville, TN. The postponed slate of shows to honor the late singer-songwriter was initially set to occur in October 2021 but was pushed due to spiking COVID cases.
Organized by Prine’s label Oh Boy Records, You Got Gold will stage concerts throughout Nashville at iconic venues including CMA Theater at The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum (10/8), Ryman Auditorium (10/9, 10/10), and Basement East (10/12). Along with Friday’s announcement, Oh Boy Records has added two new shows at City Winery (10/7, 10/11).
“Our team has been busy working with venues and artists to make sure that the whole week will add up to a beautiful experience for all of you!” The Prine family wrote in a statement. “Although John has been gone from us for over 2 years we miss him every single day and can’t wait to be together with everyone to remember him and celebrate his life and music.”

John Prine passed away from complications due to COVID on April 7th, 2020. Before his death, however, he amassed a reputation as one of the most celebrated songwriters in American history. His influence can be heard today through his many disciples including Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, Margo Price, Brandi Carlile, Todd Snider, Amanda Shires, and many more who learned at the feet of the Singin’ Mailman. Though no specific artists have yet been confirmed for the You Got Gold concerts, the weeklong celebration of Prine promises to gather his students from far and wide.
Tickets for the two newly added You Got Gold shows at City Winery go on sale to the general public on Friday, June 3rd at 3 p.m. CT. A pre-sale begins on Wednesday, June 1st at 3 p.m. CT and is accessible using a passcode that subscribers to the Oh Boy Records newsletter will have received in their emails.
[UPDATE 9/8/21]: The You Got Gold: Celebrating the Life & Songs of John Prine concerts in Nashville have been moved to October 2022. The weeklong celebration of the folk singer-songwriter throughout Music City scheduled to run from October 3rd—10th, 2021 will now take place October 7th–12th, 2022.
In a video message, Prine’s family—who are also the team at Oh Boy Records—announced their decision to push the events to 2022. This news comes as a reaction to rising COVID-19 cases due to the Delta variant. Prine died of COVID on April 7th, 2020 at the age of 73.
A message from the Prine Family and John’s Oh Boy Records reads, in part,
This decision to reschedule was not made lightly. We worked tirelessly to find a way to move forward in a safe and responsible manner, while also keeping in mind the intended joyful spirit of this long-awaited celebration and remembrance. This event is extraordinary in the sheer number of artists, crews, and fans that are planning to travel and gather together. In light of how John died, we just could not reconcile pushing forward and adding any undue stress and anxiety during an already fraught season.
The weeklong You Got Gold celebration is still set to take place throughout Nashville at the CMA Theater at The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum (10/8), the Ryman Auditorium (10/9, 10/10), and the Basement East (10/12). Refund and ticketing information can be found through point of purchase. Head here for rescheduled dates and more information. See the full announcement below.
