Guitarist John Scofield recently visited the hallowed Ed Sullivan Theatre to sit in with Louis Cato and The Late Show Band on the The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

Unfortunately, the guest sit-in was more of a treat for the live in-studio audience than for viewers at home, since, as usual, most of the music happened between segments, during the commercial breaks, with only snippets broadcast to viewers at home. Thankfully, though, The Late Show was generous enough to offer a rare look at the “commercial breakdown” featuring Scofield jamming on “I Don’t Need No Doctor” with Cato and the band.

The legendary guitarist plays an impressive solo between verses sung by Cato, who also trades guitar solos with Scofield later in the song before the pair harmonizes their way out of the tune to thunderous applause.
