Jon Batiste, the leader of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert house band Stay Human, has never seen a single episode of Game of Thrones. However, with all the buzz surrounding the HBO juggernaut’s series finale on Sunday, Batiste felt it was his duty to help viewers refresh their memories about all that’s happened on the show throughout the years.

“There’s a lot to keep track of in this series…You gotta keep it all in your head before this Sunday’s show” Colbert mused while introducing the song. “That’s why our very own Jon Batiste over there put together a song to catch you up on everything that’s happened so far.”

“You, I understand, are a big fan?” Colbert asked Batiste. “No,” Jon responded with a mischievous smile. “Never seen a single episode.”

“Well then how did you write a song recapping the entire series?” asked Colbert. “Well, I’ve seen plenty of memes online,” Batiste responded, “So, I just put it together like that, you know?… But I think I nailed it.”

Nail it, he did. For his Game of Thrones recap, Batiste channeled Purple Rain-era Prince (in both sound and style) for a comical retelling of the Medieval fantasy saga.

The results are just as irreverent and satisfying as you’d expect. Of course, Jon Batiste gets all the details wrong—yes, those are Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Pete’s Dragon clips thrown in there—but he does it with charismatic flair and spot-on 80s nostalgia that might help you forget how annoyed you are with how the final season has played out.

Take a few minutes and watch Jon Batiste (as Prince) joyously butcher the plot of Game of Thrones with the catchiest song you’ll hear today.
