Phish drummer Jon Fishman and The Meters bassist George Porter Jr. shared the stage on Thursday night as part of a benefit for Go Big For Hunger in Portland, ME.

Hosted by local tribute act Band Beyond Description, the performance saw Porter and Fishman join in on a number of fan-favorites from the Meters, Allman Brothers Band, and Grateful Dead repertoires including “Cissy Strut”, “Blue Sky”, and “Sugaree”. To close the second set-opening segment, Porter helped guide Fish and the Band Beyond Description through a celebratory “Turn On Your Love Light”. Fishman remained onstage throughout the second set.

Following the Thursday “pre-jam,” the two-night benefit event moves over to Portland’s Bayside Bowl on Friday night for the “big jam” hosted by The Maine Dead Project with Fishman, Porter, and more scheduled to return as special guests. Tickets for the “big jam” on March 4th at Bayside Bowl are available here.

Go Big For Hunger was founded in spring 2016 by life-long Mainer and musician Greg Martens. Inspired by Imagine There’s No Hunger, a global campaign created to realize John Lennon’s vision for a world without hunger, and following the lead of Yoko Ono, the Jerry Garcia Foundation, and Hard Rock Cafe, Martens implemented a local-level solution to fight childhood hunger in Maine. Go Big is an all-volunteer effort that channels 100% of funds to frontline feeding efforts through the Maine-based Full Plates Full Potential.
