Kacey Musgraves helped usher Saturday Night Live into its 47th season this weekend with a two-song musical performance on the long-running sketch comedy show. While it was A-lister Owen Wilson who hosted SNL for the first time, it was Musgraves who stole the spotlight with her nude, Jenny Gump-inspired musical performance.

After a short introduction from Wilson, the camera panned to the illustrious SNL stage, showing the backlit silhouette of Musgraves. She began by strumming an acoustic guitar and singing the opening lines to “justified”, a song off her 2021 album, star-crossed. As the rest of the stage lit up, viewers in-studio and at home watched Musgraves sitting upon a stool and performing “justified” while wearing nothing but a pair of cowboy boots and her acoustic guitar. Fans on Twitter quickly noticed a resemblance to Robin Wright‘s portrayal of Jenny from the 1994 film, Forest Gump. Shortly after the episode ended, Musgraves tweeted a picture of the scene in question, confirming the inspiration.

For her second and final song of the night, Musgraves picked another star-crossed song, the album which she released just last month. This performance of “camera roll” saw Kacey forgo the guitar in favor of jeans, a flannel, and a microphone.
