On Saturday, Texas-native trio Khruangbin offered up a celebratory hometown performance at Houston’s The Lawn at White Oak Music Hall. Fort Worth, TX-bred singer-songwriter Leon Bridges joined the band for two tunes midway through their set. Houston’s own The Suffers and DJ SUN handled the opening duties.

In addition to Bridges’ special guest appearance, the band—comprised of guitarist Mark Speer, bassist Laura Lee, and drummer Donald “DJ” Johnson—was also joined throughout the show by Will Van Horn on pedal steel guitar, Charlie Perez on percussion, and Chase Jordan on vibes.

Khruangbin kicked off their set with a mixture of material from their debut album, 2015’s The Universe Smiles Upon You, and 2018’s Con Todo El Mundo including “Bin Bin”, “Dern Kala”, “Mr. White”, “Two Fish and an Elephant”, “August 10”, and “Lady and Man”. Khruangbin then welcomed Leon Bridges onstage with an acoustic guitar in hand to lead the band through two live debuts of his own “Texas Sun” and “C-Side”. The band moved on with a cover of ZZ Top‘s “Sharp Dressed Man” before closing out the main frame with “Maria También”.

Khruangbin returned to deliver a four-song encore of “White Gloves”, “Friday Morning”, “Zionsville”, and “People Everywhere (Still Alive)”.

Next up for the trio is a run of shows throughout South America, which begins a performance in Lima, Peru on November 7th. The band will then head to Santiago, Chile on November 9th, followed by a show in Buenos Aires, Argentina on November 10th. Khruangbin will wrap their South America run in Brazil with shows in Rio de Janeiro (11/13), Sao Paulo (11/15), and Curitiba (11/16).
