Khruangbin and Leon Bridges have shared the latest single, titled “C-Side”, from their upcoming Texas Sun collaboration EP.  The song joins the title track, “Texas Sun”, and marks the second single from the combo group.

Both songs were debuted live back in November when Khruangbin invited Bridges on stage at a hometown show in Houston. Texas Sun is due to hit shelves and streaming services worldwide on February 7th via Dead Oceans, which likely makes “C-Side” the last single ahead of its release.

Texas Sun is an interesting collaboration for Khruangbin, as this is the first time they have worked with a vocalist on a studio album. Drums and bass drive the three-piece, consisting of guitarist Mark Speer, bassist Laura Lee, and drummer Donald “DJ” Johnson. The guitar playing by Speer adds harmonic layers to the mix, replacing a would-be vocalist and filling the gaps between Lee’s bass and DJ’s drums. Bridges’ vocals, however, add a unique overlay that hasn’t been heard in Khruangbin’s music thus far.

“C-Side” is sexy. That might be the best way to put it. The rhythm section maintains an endless groove while Speer creates melodies and soundscapes that compliment Bridges’ vocals. The vocals, especially during the outro, invoke movement from the listener. “Baby got me high like a kite/Got me high and don’t need no green/Just two lovers dancin’ in the night/While the horns blast in the street”.
