Khruangbin teamed up with DJ/composer Quantic for a take on Booker T. & The M.G.‘s R&B classic, “Green Onions”. Available as an Amazon Music exclusive, the cover celebrates the original’s 60th anniversary this year.

“Green Onions” is instrumental, both in the sense that it has no words and also was foundational to the music that came after it. Khruangbin and Quantic draw a direct line from Booker T. to the current age with this modern take on the classic composition. K-bin finds its sweet spot on this groove that feels like it could stretch on for eternity but confines itself to a modest 4:21 minute runtime. Quantic is able to carve out a distinct space in guitarist Mark Speer, bassist Laura Lee, and drummer Donald “DJ” Johnson‘s well-established sound.

“A very nice rendition of the song,” Booker T. & the M.G.’s guitarist Steve Cropper said. “I really like the modern touch with the rhythm.”
