Rappers Kid Cudi and Eminem have shared a new single, “The Adventures of Moon Man and Slim Shady”, which marks the duo’s first-ever collaboration. The new single follows “Leader of the Delinquents“, a single Cudi released back in April promoting his forthcoming Entergalactic album, as well as a collaborative single with Travis Scott.
“Yeah it’s been a minute but I’m back in it,” Cudi says to open the song, reinforcing his promise of a busy 2020. His verse flowed well, with buttery rhymes dripping over a dark and raw beat. Cudder’s lyrical content touches on his time spent away from rap, dealing with addiction and poor mental health, and his arrival as a refreshed artist hell-bent on taking the industry by storm.
Eminem’s verse was actually markedly different from what fans are used to. While he has always been one of the best lyricists in the game—and those skills are ever-present on this track—his approach was much less hostile and attack-like than usual. His delivery seemed cool-headed and smooth despite the poignant lyrical content. Em interweaves references to George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and other issues related to police brutality throughout.
It is unclear whether or not this is the first collaboration in a series, however, Cudi says “The trilogy continues” during the outro, insinuating the possibility of another song or two from the duo.
