Last year Kid Cudi promised a new album and animated Netflix series, and on Tuesday he started delivering with a new single from his forthcoming Entergalactic album, titled “Leader of the Delinquents”.

The Republic Records release will mark The Kid’s seventh solo album, following 2016’s Passion, Pain, & Demon Slayin’, and his first release since a 2018 collaboration with Kanye West, titled Kids See Ghosts.

His nickname may be “The Kid”, but “Leader of the Delinquents” sees Cudi tackle some grown concepts with the flow and punctuality many have come to expect. After first addressing the elephant in the room—the novel coronavirus—with lines like “Hello, friends, Cudder again/ Gotta smack ’em with some sh!t before the world ends/ Same old denims, worn for days/ I been home makin’ jams and many wonderful waves,” Cudi acknowledges some struggles he’s been vocal about in the past. He strings together lines like, “But sometimes I wanted to shoot my f*ck!n’ face off/ I’m talkin’ game over, defeated the boss/ Hope with age I can cope with my rage,” in the first verse, before showing a more self-confident portrayal of himself in the second.

By the time the song ends, Cudi seems like he is ready to take on the role of “leader of the delinquents,” pushing back on the narrative he creates in the first verse. Listen to the new track below.

As far as the album and Netflix series is concerned, there are no further details regarding a release date for either project. Unlike many artists, Kid Cudi had no tour dates scheduled throughout the early part of 2020, and thus, has not had to cancel or postpone any dates due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. It was expected, however, that Cudi would announce a full North American tour by the end of the year, so stay tuned to his website for the latest information.
