Australia’s King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard stopped into Central Park SummerStage on Wednesday for a mid-week hard rock blowout as the latest stop of the band’s ongoing summer tour.

The nearly two-hour performance in front of what was definitely a rowdy audience could be considered the band’s largest headlining show in New York City thus far. To no one’s surprise, the seven-piece, two drummer band powered their way through a furious 18-song set under mostly clear skies despite a few quick teases of potential rain over NYC’s Central Park here and there.

Following opening sets from Stonefield and ORB, King Gizzard took the stage shortly after 8:15 p.m. and opened their wildly fun set with “Self-Immolate”. The band’s setlist contained an intense collection of high-energy garage rock and blues-driven angst from which their core sound is derived from, although they made a point to perform plenty of the harder, thrash metal-inspired tunes heard on their more recent albums in 2019’s Infest The Rats and Fishing for Fishies.

The King Gizzard summer tour picks up again next week with the next scheduled performance at the Joy Theater in New Orleans, LA on September 3rd. Head to the band’s website for tickets and tour info.
