King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have released a new single, entitled “Some of Us”, alongside a haunting music video.

The release comes as the band’s first single in almost a month, having previously shared “Honey” back on July 15th. While these two singles aren’t yet attached to any album project, the Australian cross-genre rockers have apparently “Made heaps of tunes lately,” according to a post announcing the latest single on Thursday.

“Some of Us” finds the members of King Gizzard awash in a type of thermal heat sensor, and the resulting effect makes them all look like a combination of the Fantastic Four‘s Human Torch and a demon of sorts. Combine that with the classic guitar progression that mimics and matches Stu Mackenzie‘s vocals, and the result is something nightmarish, which makes the band’s teaser post from Tuesday that read “Coming to haunt your dreams in 15 hours” all the more relevant.

As far as the constantly shifting musical direction of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard goes, “Some of Us” sounds like it could have come off Flying Microtonal Banana from 2017. The sound is harder and darker, but not to the extent of the sludge-rock glory of Infest the Rats’ Nest. Somewhere in there, between the chaos of the music and the creepiness of the video, there is also the far-out lyricism that serves as the one constant through the band’s eclectic and expansive catalog.

“This Cookie penned, Stu sung song came together early this year as the world was slowly descending into madness, but before it was truly on fire,” the band said in a Facebook post releasing the single. “We’ve made heaps of tunes lately. Currently putting some sparkles on em. Can wait to show y’all before we go down in flames.”

“Some of Us” Lyrics

Ancient tombs like sand filled wombs of peoples life past. Understand everything. Melted iron. Untold aeons. Crafted demise. Destroying everything.

Black sand timelines. Shifting skylines. Faded guide signs revealing everything. Ancient Thracians from lost nations. Long gone people understand everything.

Some, some of us see. Some, some of us don’t. Assured everything turns into dust.

Rigor mortis fossil tortoise remains dormant underneath everything. Ageless microbes reveal xenophobes. Endless plague thus infecting everything.

Sapien rituals born of mind tools. Sects of false gods fade into everything. Eternal tribes of purgatory scribes. Ancient words thus foretelling everything.

Some, some of us live. Some, some of us die. Assured everything turns into dust.

Some, some of us live. Some, some of us die. Assured everything turns into dust.
