King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Share New Single, "Honey" [Watch]

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have released a new single, entitled “Honey”. The song was written by guitarist Stu Mackenzie “a couple of years ago,” and was shared along with a music video on Tuesday.

The song, while not yet uploaded to the band’s Spotify page, marks the group’s first studio output since 2019’s Infest The Rats’ Nest. Since then, the Melbourne-bred alt-rockers have shared a slew of live releases, several of which raised money for Australian wildfire relief, as well as a concert film and live album, Chunky Shrapnel.

The song features King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard in one of their more delicate states, with an acoustic guitar intro from Mackenzie. The song stands in stark contrast to the metal-heavy Infest The Rats Nest, and given the time frame when Mackenzie said the song was written, may have been axed from 2019’s Fishing For Fishies. At any rate, “Honey” once again shows yet another complete genre change for King Gizzard, who over the course of 15 albums in eight years have explored just about every musical mood there is.

Meanwhile, the music video, directed by frequent KG&LW collaborator John Angus Stewart, reflects the current state of quarantine that many around the world are still experiencing. Mackenzie is the only member of the band shown, as he plays his acoustic guitar at solitary locations around the city, presumably Melbourne.
