Kitchen Dwellers will look to their Montana roots for their third album, Wise River. Out on April 29th, the jamgrass outfit previewed the Cory Wong-produced album on Friday with the title track.
Drawing inspiration from Wise River, a natural wonder of Montana two hours from the band’s home base of Bozeman, Kitchen Dwellers weave a detailed picture of the rugged terrains that birthed their innovative blend of Americana. The band’s folk tendencies shine through in vivid descriptions of Anytown U.S.A., in this case Wise River, a “lonely river town where the barfly knows you best.”
“The town of Wise River is basically a forgotten spot on the map,” mandolinist Shawn Swain said. “It used to be a thriving place with many prosperous mines, but now it’s practically dried up. There’s a hell of a lot of melancholy. In our mind, it symbolizes the overall feeling of being in slowed-down Montana life.”
