We’ve already told you about Equifunk Escape, the convenient New Year’s getaway located just 2 hours outside of NYC at Full Moon Resort in the Catskills, featuring the funky tunes of Kung Fu, Deep Banana Blackout and Relative Souls to ring in 2015 properly. Now our friends at Equifunk have announced a very special third set, a tribute to the ‘The J.B.’S & BEYOND!’.  Funk powerhouses Deep Banana Blackout and Kung Fu will unite to form a supergroup while paying homage to some of funk’s biggest legends.  In the absence of the Equifunk 2014 summer music festival, organizers wanted to have an event to celebrate the spirit of Equifunk- ‘THE  J.B.’S & BEYOND’ will be just that.  Equifunk tells us this event is not to be missed and remember capacity is extremely limited at only 150!

Let Kung Fu and Deep Banana Blackout help you ring in 2015 on the “good foot” — or rather, both dancin’ feet. Kung Fu will bring their electro-fusion funk to the party, getting you grooving through 70s-style and modern day funk straight into the new year. New Orleans style jazz-funk outfit Deep Banana Blackout will continue to lay down the funk through the wee hours of the morning, Equifunk-style.

In addition to top-notch musical performances, attendees can anticipate many interactive activities hosted by the bands themselves. Indulge in a band-hosted ‘FU YEARS EVE’ champagne toast, poster signings held in casual settings and a meet & greet brunch called ‘DEEP BANANA HANGOUT’.

The JB’s were the legendary supporting cast of musicians behind James Brown, earning a well-deserved reputation as the tightest, best-drilled instrumental ensemble in all of funk. The name J.B.’s is most often associated with three hornmen in particular — saxophonists Maceo Parker and Alfred “Pee Wee” Ellis, and trombonist Fred Wesley, all of whom originally joined Brown’s backing band at various points during the ’60s. As a recording entity unto themselves, however, The J.B.’s enjoyed a distinctly defined heyday from 1970-1975, under the musical directorship of Wesley (though Brown, naturally, remained a strong presence). The J.B.’s were billed under a variety of alternate names on their own singles and albums — Fred Wesley and the J.B.’s, Maceo and the Macks, Fred and the New J.B.’s, the James Brown Soul Train, the Last Word, the First Family, and more. The core group of personnel, despite some turnover on the periphery, remained fairly steady from 1971 on, at least until Brown’s creative downturn precipitated several important defections.
