Kurt Vile has announced his first new album since 2018, (watch my moves), and shared the lead single “Like Exploding Stones”. Out on April 15th, the 15-track LP will mark the indie singer-songwriter’s first since signing to Verve Records, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group.

Though it comes as his major-label debut—coming nearly 20 years into his career—the first preview of (watch my moves) retains the harbingers of Vile’s unique style. The delightfully dreary, seven-minute single drones on in apathetic psychedelia with help from Sun Ra Arkestra‘s James Stewart. The polished sound and visually masterful music video are fringe benefits of his Verve contract, but the deadpan vocal delivery and oddball acting keep Vile’s soul intact.

“When Waylon Jennings became an outlaw country artist, he liked to record at Hillbilly Central, which was Tompall Glaser’s studio,” Vile said. “OKV Central is my version of that in Mount Airy. I’ve come into my own here, and at the same time I’m getting back to my home-recording roots.”
