Kurt Vile on Thursday delivered a tribute to his Philadelphia suburb with the new single, “Mount Airy Hill (Way Gone)”. The track is the third preview from the singer-songwriter’s upcoming Verve Records debut, (watch my moves), out April 15th.
Vile skates right into the laid-back groove on “Mount Airy Hill” as effortlessly as he skateboards through the titular suburb’s streets in the music video. The community houses the OKV Central home studio where Vile primarily recorded (watch my moves), and the musician is as comfortable in the song as he is in the neighborhood. A trip into the nearby woods brings about some intense hallucinations, but Vile frisbees and skates his way through them without breaking his slacker demeanor.
“When Waylon Jennings became an outlaw country artist, he liked to record at Hillbilly Central, which was Tompall Glaser’s studio,” Vile said. “OKV Central is my version of that in Mount Airy. I’ve come into my own here, and at the same time I’m getting back to my home-recording roots.”
