Kurt Vile returned on Friday with “Hey Like A Child”, the second single from (watch my moves). The former War On Drugs guitarist’s Verve Records debut is out on April 15th.

Similar to the lead single, “Like Exploding Stones“, “Hey Like A Child” takes its time as Vile meanders around a loping psychedelic guitar. His trademark slacker vocal stylings give the track a cosmic country tinge as he spews out stream-of-consciousness lines, “Hey like a child you waltzed into my life/Hey like a mild high, I’m feelin’ fine.” Vile’s songs have no beginning, middle, or end, but rather take on a never-ending linear existence.

(watch my moves) marks Vile’s solo, major-label debut after signing to Verve—a subsidiary of Universal Music Group—last April. The polished sound so far exhibited in the singles takes Vile sonically out of the basement, while still maintaining his reliably independent voice. He recorded the 15-track LP at his OKV Central home studio in the Mount Airy suburb of Philadelphia, PA. The album features his backing band The Violators alongside guest appearances from Chastity BeltCate Le Bon, and drummers Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint) and Sarah Jones (Hot Chip, Harry Styles). James Stewart of Sun Ra Arkestra appeared on the lead single, “Like Exploding Stones”.
