The Last Waltz Tour 2019 opened with an all-star performance at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY on Tuesday night. The sold-out opening night of the tour, which is branded as “A Celebration of The Band’s Historic Farewell Concert,” was the first of 12 total performances scheduled throughout November.
Tuesday’s show featured a core band comprised of Warren Haynes, John Medeski, Lukas Nelson, Jamey Johnson, Don Was, and Terence Higgins. They were joined throughout the evening by Dave Malone (The Radiators), Cyril Neville, Bob Margolin, and Mark Mullins & The Levee Horns.
The two-set, 24-song performance opened with the Jamey Johnson-sung “Up on Cripple Creek”, followed by “The Shape I’m In”, “Stage Fright”, “Georgia (On My Mind)”, and “It Makes No Difference”. The music continued with “Down South in New Orleans”, followed by a take on Bob Diddley‘s “Who Do You Love?” with Cyril Neville leading the charge through the old blues tune on vocals, and “This Wheel’s on Fire”. The set came to a close with “King Harvest (Has Surely Come)” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down”.

The set came to a close with the communal performance of “The Weight” followed by another Dylan tune in “I Shall Be Released”.
The band returned for a two-song encore beginning with a tribute to the late Dr. John with “Such a Night”, followed by Marvin Gaye‘s “Baby Don’t You Do It”.
