The Last Waltz Tour 2019 continued for the second night with an all-star performance at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, NJ. The tour, which is branded as “A Celebration of The Band’s Historic Farewell Concert”, is comprised of 12 total performances scheduled throughout November. Wednesday’s show featured Warren Haynes, Jamey Johnson, Lukas Nelson, John Medeski, Don Was, Terence Higgins, Dave Malone, Cyril Neville, Bob Margolin, Mark Mullins, and The Levee Horns.
The two-set performance opened with “Up on Cripple Creek”, followed by “The Shape I’m In”, “Stage Fright”, “Georgia (On My Mind)”, and “It Makes No Difference”. The music continued with “Life Is A Carnival”, “Down South in New Orleans”, followed by a rendition of Bo Diddley‘s “Who Do You Love?” and “This Wheel’s on Fire”. The set came to a close with “King Harvest (Has Surely Come)” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down”.
The band returned to the stage to open the second half of the show with “Chest Fever”, “Ophelia”, and a cover of Van Morrison‘s “Caravan.” The set continued with a few more covers, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young‘s “Helpless” and Little Junior’s Blue Flames‘ “Mystery Train.” Next, the band played “Rag Mama Rag”, a cover of Muddy Water‘s “Mannish Boy”, Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland‘s “Farther Up the Road”, and Bob Dylan‘s “Forever Young”. The set came to a close with “The Weight” followed by another Dylan tune, “I Shall Be Released”.
Lastly, the band returned for a two-song encore beginning with a tribute to the late Dr. John with “Such a Night”, followed by Marvin Gaye‘s “Baby Don’t You Do It”.
