Lettuce takes a trip to the outer reaches of the universe with help from interdimensional funkmaster Bootsy Collins in the new animated video for “Keep That Funk Alive”. The collaborative single appears on the future funk ensemble’s latest album, Unify, out now.

From the opening bass bounce, “Keep That Funk Alive” is instantly distinguishable as bearing the fingerprints of the Parliament-Funkadelic bassist who served as an architect of funk as we know it. Bootsy steers the ship both musically and literally in the video as the rest of Lettuce adds its signature blend of influences that show just how far the genre has come since Collins first laid its foundations.

“Music is something that outlasts the people who make it,” guitarist Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff told Brooklyn Vegan, who premiered the track on Wednesday. “Our hope is that future generations will continue to enjoy this song way past our time here. It has a timeless quality… like Stretching out in a Rubber band, Mothership Connection, or Sex Machine, BOOTSY has done it again. He has found a way to imprint his unique feel for the ‘1,’ to create with Lettuce, a song that we believe will forever ‘Keep That Funk Alive’.”
