Lettuce has delivered its second new single of 2022 with the upbeat “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright”, a reimagined version of The Clark Sisters‘ 1979 song of the same name. Set to appear on the band’s eighth studio album, Unify, out on June 3rd via Round Hill Records, the song features vocals from Dumpstaphunk bassist Nick Daniels III, who also co-wrote the new arrangement.
“Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” hears Lettuce keyboardist/vocalist Nigel Hall bring a fresh perspective to the number. Appearing on the sisterly gospel group’s 1979 album He Gave Me Nothing To Lose, Lettuce uses the song to once again confront similarly tumultuous times. The modern, punch-funk sound blends with the vintage lyrics to create an anthem of perseverance for a new age.
“Nigel’s contributions to Lettuce have been so important to our growth musically and as a family,” drummer Adam Deitch said. “He chose to remake this tune and completely crushed the arrangement! Nick Daniels lends his amazing voice and vibe to this song.”
Unify marks Lettuce’s follow-up to 2020’s Resonate and completes a trio of albums recorded at Denver’s Colorado Sound Studios that began with 2019’s Grammy-nominated Elevate. The 2021 recording sessions signified a reunion for the sextet, who had not shared the same room since the group’s European tour was cut short in March 2020.
“Dealing with the pandemic, being in separate places, trying to survive without our best friends, without touring, not to mention the political divide in this country. We really needed to unify,” Deitch said.
