On Monday night, Denver, CO’s Cervantes’ Other Side hosted a pop-up edition of Live For Live Music‘s The Funk Sessions featuring Lil Baby Jesus’ Peasant Party, the experimental, improv-centric side project of Lettuce bassist Erick “Jesus” Coomes.

Last night’s psychedelic funk throwdown featured Jesus alongside his Lettuce bandmates Eric “Benny” Bloom (trumpet) and Ryan Zoidis (saxophone), Adam Deitch, his brother, Tycoon (drums), and Break Science’s Borahm Lee on the keys, along with special guest keyboardist DeShawn “D-Vibes” Alexander.

Bloom and Zoidis had a lot to celebrate last night, as the duo officially launched their new Colorado-based natural wine distribution company, Sauvage Selections Natural Wine. Sauvage Selections works exclusively with small, family-owned wineries that farm organically or biodynamically, without the use of artificial chemicals or pesticides. Sauvage Selections Natural Wines are made using traditional winemaking methods with low intervention in the cellar, so their wines are naturally fermented, handcrafted, and untamed.

With bottles of Sauvage Selections all about the stage, the improvisational funk exploration set sail, backed by the all-star cast’s fearless leader Jesus ripping a Languedoc guitar for the majority of the show. Tycoon dazzled the crowd behind the kit, as Benny and Zoidis utilized mind-bending effects and pedal boards with their horns. Adam Deitch added extra depth to the lush sonic soundscape using some samples and a keyboard, along with D-Vibes subbing in for Borahm for a segment of the show. Lil Baby Jesus’ Peasant Party was the perfect way to celebrate Benny and Zoidis’ new business endeavor—the crowd was loving the newly unveiled natural wines as was the band. Watching the masters of funk simultaneously crush their performance while slaying bottles of wine is a night to be remembered!
