The first posthumous release from Prince comes out today, and with it comes the first track released from his famous and mysterious music vault. The vault, located at his famed Paisley Park Complex, is said to contain a massive collection of unreleased music, with Prince and his various projects recording hours and hours worth of songs and jam sessions over the years. With his untimely passing this past April, the executors of his estate have opened the vault and plan on releasing new music with regularity, filling the musical void that Prince left behind.

This new track, titled “Moonbeam Levels”, is a drum-machine-heavy pop-ballad, recorded during in 1982 during the studio sessions for his hit album 1999. The song was cut from the album, and, while it was considered for a few other future albums, never made it on an official release. Now, with the release of the new compilation album Prince 4Ever, “Moonbeam Levels” will see the light of day.

The song was debuted during an episode of ABC News, which brought together a bevy of superfans to the Cutting Room Studios to hear the official recording of “Moonbeam Levels” for the first time. You can watch the video below (the song starts at 0:45)
