With Galactic on the heels of a new album release, the New Orleans funk band has shared a brand new track featuring the legendary Mavis Staples on vocals. Check out “Does It Really Make A Difference” below, which will be included on the band’s July 17th release, Into The Deep.
According to the official premiere in the Speakeasy WSJ blog, Staples and Galactic met roughly ten years ago, but “Difference” marks their first official recorded collaboration. Mavis Staples is perhaps best known for her work with the Staple Sisters, but Mavis Staples has been making music consistently for over 50 years.
The song itself feels like a Staples song, and that was intentional. As Galactic bassist Rob Mercurio explains, “We were inspired by old soul and R&B records—we wanted to make a song in that vein.”
