With the legendary status of Jimi Hendrix and The Band of Gypsys, it is hard to believe that the actual band only played together three times before the guitarist’s unfortunate passing. Hendrix secured bassist Billy Cox and drummer Buddy Miles for the live recording of the Band of Gypsys album at The Fillmore East on January 1st, 1970. There, the band went into some deep-exploration mode, laying down eight tracks for what would ultimately be Hendrix’s last recording.

After two more performances, including the final show at the Winter Festival For Peace in January 28th, 1970, The Band of Gypsys would never perform again. A few months later, Hendrix unfortunately passed away, and the rest is history.

RIP Jimi Hendrix.
