New York City is home to decades of music history. Starting in the early 1900s, when the songwriters of the Tin Pan Alley wrote some of America’s earliest hits in Union Square – songs like ‘Take Me Out To The Ballgame’, ‘God Bless America’, ‘Sweet Georgia Brown’ are still modern staples. Next, New York City became a major hub of blues and jazz music, with artists like Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, and Duke Ellington all calling New York city home for periods of time.

In the 50′s and 60′s, New York City coffee houses were called home by Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, James Taylor, and Carly Simon among many others. Later, it was not uncommon to catch Jimi Hendrix or The Velvet Underground jamming in the village. The 70′s and 80′s belonged to CBGBs, hosting the likes of the Talking Heads, Television, and Patti Smith regularly. The 90′s saw The Wetlands host Phish and Blues Traveler regularly

In the spirit of New York City’s rich musical history, Live For Live Music presents ‘Live For Live Jams’, a new monthly residency at Drom, highlighting young, up and coming bands both locally and nationally. We aim to give bands the platform and the time to show what they can do best – jam. You may know the bands on the bill, you may not – but we can assure you that they have the L4LM seal of approval and they’ll be rocking out hard.

In the coming months, you can expect guest appearances, sit ins, and collaborations, but most importantly – pure, unadulterated jam sessions. Whether it be pure jam bands, a dose of funk, or some spaced out livetronica, you’re going to have a good time. Beyond just the music, we’re building a community. A place where you can come alone, and leave with a group of friends. Where you may meet your future band mates, or find an artist for your next poster. This is a place where once a month, jam fans can come together and just hang out in a place that has been curated specifically for you.

The inaugural jam session will take place June 12th, featuring funky disco DJ Speakerbot, Brooklyn based funk act HeyLady, and livetronica act BlendMode. HeyLady has shared the stage with such funk heavyweights as George Clinton and The Parliament Funkadelic, The Motet, Rebirth Brass Band, and Breakestra, while BlendMode is set to open up for the livetronica supergroup Suckerpunch next month. We see a bright future for these guys, so don’t miss out.

This event is for you – the fans. The real music fans who want to come out on a Wednesday and hear some awesome music. We want your input – if you’re in a band or know band that would be perfect for this show, let us know! If you do some sort of performance art that you’d like to display – contact us! Shoot an e-mail to justin@liveforlivemusic.com and we’ll get back to you. But most importantly, tell your friends! This isn’t about coming to one show, its about building a community.
