Last year, Live For Live Music published an article projecting the various ways the live music industry landscape could change and adapt to the times plagued by COVID-19. While not all of those projections have come to fruition, one of them centered around the possibility of “AEG Live + Live Nation Will Roll Out Their Own Streaming Platforms” has since unfolded… sort of.

Earlier this week, Live Nation announced it has teamed up with artist-first livestream platform Veeps to equip over 60 of its concert venues across the country with the capability of offering livestreams during performances with the flip of a switch. Even with indoor and outdoor concert venues gradually and cautiously reopening in select markets, Live Nation is now banking on the potential that virtual music content and the livestreaming model are here to stay.

In addition to offering real-time footage of the live performance, the strategy would also offer viewers access to exclusive content ranging from backstage happenings to front-row viewing angles, according to the announcement. It would also allow Live Nation (and possibly the artists) to build on the profit of any given concert by selling virtual access to shows that have already sold out in-person tickets.

Some of the first Live Nation-owned venues being equipped with the proper tech to allow for high-definition webcast abilities include The Wiltern (Los Angeles), The Fillmore (San Francisco and Philadelphia), House of Blues (Chicago and New Orleans), Shoreline Amphitheater (Mountain View, CA), and The Gorge (George, WA).

“Artists and fans are eager to get back to shows, and livestreams will continue to unlock opportunities for them to connect more than ever before,” Live Nation Entertainment President and CEO Michael Rapino said of the company’s new initiative in a press statement. “Veeps is the best at what they do, with Benji and Joel [Madden] tapping into their own experience as artists to help other artists thrive, and we look forward to bringing this innovative idea to life in these iconic venues.”

Additionally, the announcement confirmed the new initiative will launch with a series of ticketed livestreams from The Wiltern beginning on May 7th and continuing into the summer months with performances from Breland, JP Saxe, Young Thug, Lany, Young M.A, Freddie Gibbs, Chase Atlantic, and more.
