Watch out Ron Burgundy, there’s a new jazz flute (yazz flute?) player in town, and she doesn’t step down to a challenge too lightly.

Recently, actor Will Farrell—in character as the legendarily talented Burgundy from Anchorman—and emerging pop/hip-hop artist Lizzo engaged in a challenge of who has stronger abilities when it comes to playing the flute. As many fans know, there was a time when Burgundy was considered one of the top jazz flute players within the San Diego news anchor scene. His time has now passed, however, and artists like Lizzo are here to show that a new generation of flautists is not to be so easily overlooked.

In an attempt to best Burgundy at his own game, Lizzo recruited HAIM bassist Este Haim and actor Rightor Doyle to help her recreate the infamous jazz flute scene from the cult favorite 2004 comedy. The recreation was filmed by director Jake Wilson and shared by Lizzo to her YouTube on Tuesday.

In the entertaining video, which borrows from the scene in Anchorman, Lizzo explains to Haim how she “dabbles” in jazz flute. Just as in the original film, Lizzo is persuaded to get up on stage and put her abilities to the test. Also similar to Burgundy’s infamous performance, Lizzo can’t be held to the stage during her solo, as she’s seen playing her way atop the row of dinner tables, into the women’s bathroom, and back out into the venue room with the melodic, boastful announcement of “Suck my dick!”

Lizzo will embark on a run of spring tour dates beginning on April 22nd to help promote her forthcoming studio album, Cuz I Love You, which will arrive a few days prior on April 19th. Fans should expect to hear Lizzo share more 2019 concert dates as summer approaches, as she was also included in Tuesday’s lineup announcement for this year’s Mo Pop Festival earlier this week as well. Fans can head to Lizzo’s website for tour and ticket info.
