Lizzo has been a superstar on the rise since attaining mainstream success in 2019 with the release of her third album, Cuz I Love You, which included hits like “Juice” and “Truth Hurts”. She has already had a whirlwind year, launching a revolutionary women’s shapewear brand called YITTY and appearing on CBS‘s The Late Show With James Corden where she gave fans a sneak peak of her now-released single, “About Damn Time”, before performing the track on SNL earlier this month. She can also be seen starring in Amazon Prime Video‘s number one reality show, Lizzo’s Watch Out For The Big Grrrls.

Lizzo – “About Damn Time” Live On SNL

In addition to premiering new music with a all-woman live band and a sparkling troupe of backup dancers, Lizzo used her appearance on SNL to showcase her comedic abilities as the episode’s host, with one sketch lampooning pop hitmakers Black Eyed Peas for having superficial lyrics and another in which she played a flautist who could not perform with an orchestra without twerking—an art form Lizzo has helped to elevate with a TED Talk about its roots in West African dance. She also displayed her love of family, shouting out her mother, who also introduced one of her daughter’s musical performances. For the others, Lizzo playfully introduced herself, saying, “Ladies and gentleman, me!”
