Today marks the New York City and Los Angeles premieres of the new Grateful Dead documentary, Long Strange Trip, from director Amir Bar-Lev and executive producer Martin Scorsese. Many fans got to check out this new film on the Grateful Dead yesterday, when it was previewed in movie theaters and iconic venues—including Red Rocks Amphitheatre and The Capitol Theatre—across the country ahead of its June 2nd Amazon Prime release date. Coinciding with these more formal premieres today, the official soundtrack for Long Strange Trip has been released.

The soundtrack for Long Strange Trip mixes studio recordings with live performances of the Dead and contains unheard and unreleased Grateful Dead material and is a product of film director Amir Bar-Lev and Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux. The standard two-disc release is a well thought out compilation to accompany the film. This new soundtrack also includes unheard versions of “Dark Star” (Live At The Fillmore East, New York, NY, 2/14/1970), “China Cat Sunflower”> (Live At Chateau d’Herouville, Herovuville, France, 6/21/1971), “I Know You Rider” (Live At Chateau d’Herouville, Herovuville, France, 6/21/1971), “The Music Never Stopped” (Live At The Great American Music Hall, San Francisco, CA, 8/13/1975), “Dear Mr. Fantasy”> (Live At Sullivan Stadium, Foxboro, MA, 7/2/1989), and “Hey Jude” (Live At Sullivan Stadium, Foxboro, MA, 7/2/1989).
