Lotus celebrated Thanksgiving with a two-night, disco-filled run at Brooklyn Bowl on Friday and Saturday.

The electronic-fusion ensemble featuring Mike GreenfieldTim Palmieri, Luke MillerJesse Miller, and Chuck Morris kicked off the Brooklyn run the day after Thanksgiving, a.k.a. Black Friday. The band’s first set of the weekend was encapsulated within “Bellwether”, off 2008’s Hammerstrike. “Slow Cookin'”, “Entangled”, “Opo”, “Living Storm”, and “Move Too Fast” furnished the rest of the run-opening set.

Set two began with “Debrise”, followed by one of Friday’s highlights, “A Fifth of Beethoven” by Walter Murphy, which Lotus debuted at its recent Halloween run at Belly Up Aspen. The disco-fied version of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony famously featured in the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever got the booties shaking before the band continued the set with “Lucid Awakeing” and a contiguous sequence of “Desert Blooms”, from the recently release Bloom & Recede, “Did Fatt”, and “128”. The band capped night one with a “Cream on Chrome” encore.

Lotus returned to Brooklyn Bowl for night two on Saturday, opening with “Cold Facts” and Bloom & Recede single “Time Dilates”. After runs through “Blue Giant” and “Eats the Light”—the almost title track from 2016’s Eat the Light—Lotus repeated the disco theme of Friday’s first set with another song off the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, the Bee Gees‘ “You Should Be Dancing”. The 1976 dance club anthem, which Lotus debuted along with “A Fifth of Beethoven” during its October Halloween run, was couched within “Wax” to close the first set.

Set two began with “Destroyer”, followed by another jamwich of “Intro to a Cell”, off the band’s 2002 now-out-of-print self-released debut album Vibes, with “Lead Pipe” inserted in the middle of the tune. The set finished on a high note with a cover of Mildlife‘s “Automatic” and a pairing of “Tar Pits” > “Juggernaut”. For the encore, Lotus capped the weekend with another track from Vibes, “Sunrain”.
