Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real served as musical guests on last night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, where they performed “Perennial Bloom (Back To You)”. The song serves as the lead single off the band’s new album, A Few Stars Apart.

Serving as the introduction to Nelson’s pandemic-minded studio effort, “Perennial Bloom” exists as an emotional reflecting pool that will only deepen with age. The song, much like the album, explores that the stillness the singer-songwriter discovered during lockdown, opening with the line “Some of the stillness I have found/Is bound to last.”

As we continue to move further away from the nightmare of the pandemic, however, the musical content becomes something like a time capsule or literal record of note of a dark time in human history. But with each passing performance of the song, as the masks come off and the crowds come closer together, the message and meaning of “Perennial Bloom” become all the more joyous as Nelson and Promise Of The Real “Sound the bell that brings me back/to you.”
