Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real were back in action last week for another live studio cover as part of the band’s new Soundcheck Songs performance series. This time around Nelson and his band opted for a live take on the fan-favorite Dire Straits ballad, “Romeo and Juliet”, which first appeared on their 1980 Making Movies LP.

This week’s cover was chosen by Nelson himself, who added in a statement with his song choice,

“Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits became a huge influence on me growing up due to the grooves, the killer songs, and the elegant, ton-focused guitar playing. ‘Romeo and Juliet’ is one of my favorites because it seamlessly combines all of those qualities. This Thanksgiving, I dedicate this song to star-crossed lovers around the country kept apart by the forces of fate or separated by families of opposite ideology. May your love be the force that unites us again and may families unite again in the name of love.”
