For nearly two months, Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real have kept fans entertained with the Soundcheck Songs cover series. So far, the outfit has tackled songs by Neil Young, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, J.J. Cale, John Lennon, and Dire Straits. On Thursday, however, Lukas Nelson broke from tradition by not only performing without his backing band but by also playing a song of his own, “Set Me Down On A Cloud”.

Ahead of his solitary performance, Nelson addressed his audience dedicating the song to “people who are having to sit in a room right now.” The lead single from the group’s 2017 self-titled album, the song lends itself quite well to Nelson’s solo performance. Though the son of Willie Nelson never quite clarifies his opening remarks, the song’s opening lyrics of “I’m sitting in a room/Waiting on an answer” sums up the situation millions of people around the country face as we collectively hold our breath for good news.
