Fans in search of inspiring new content to watch while in self-quarantine will be thrilled to know that Mac DeMarco is the host of a new online web series entitled, Advanced Studio Recording Techniques. The show airs on a new video streaming service called Eternal Family and teaches viewers the fundamentals of recording music and the various strategies for capturing audio in a non-traditional setting.

According to a report shared by Fader, the show’s pilot is now available to stream on the newly-launched platform, which offers subscribers original video content from independent artists. Eternal Family was co-founded by Cole Kush, an experienced video artist who previously worked with DeMarco on the indie-rock guitarist’s 2019 music video for “Here Comes The Cowboy”.

The pilot episode reportedly sees DeMarco teaching viewers how to turn that spare room in the house into a vibrant echo chamber. As seen in the brief clip from the streaming network’s promo video below, DeMarco also has his face covered in a jelly-like lubricant substance of some kind, so prepare to get a little weird with this one.

In actuality, this network looks to have some slightly weird but very original shows which are available for a pretty affordable $5 per month. A statement shared by Kush with the trailer via his Instagram on Monday reads,

I want to share a project I’ve been working on for many months with a group of artists that I love. It is called “Eternal Family” – @eternalfamily.tv – an artist-run video membership experience and a place to try out new ideas, whether for “laughing” or for “education” or “inspiration.” It costs $5/month for unlimited access & no ads. 60% of the monthly revenue goes to our creators and the rest to operations & funds to create and license more interesting things. You can cancel anytime if you do NOT enjoy this service.

Check out the promo video for the new streaming platform below with Mac’s clip coming towards the end of the first of two videos.

Hello friends. I really hope you are feeling OK out there. The goal is to create stable income and a place to try out ideas that can be self-produced and perhaps hard to pitch. More monthly users =  more funds to create more shows and add apps for mobile & TV. Here is a trailer to show what’s on the site and there’s lots more coming down the pipe I’m excited to share 🙂

Earlier this month DeMarco had announced plans to release the demo recordings from the Here Comes The Cowboy sessions on April 17th, with a colored-vinyl edition to also be sold on Record Store Day. The April 17th release has since been pushed back to June 19th.

Until then, fans can revisit DeMarco’s recent performance on Austin City Limits, as the long-running show has offered its past three seasons worth of episodes which are now available to stream online for free with the current absence of live music for the foreseeable future.
