On Tuesday, Maggie Rose appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show to perform her latest single, “20/20”. Additionally, the rising singer-songwriter has announced her own podcast and the release of an upcoming Christmas song, “Happier New Year (Christmas Is Cancelled)”, out on November 20th.
Rose’s new podcast, Salute the Songbird with Maggie Rose, will premiere in January 2021 on Osiris Media. The program, hosted by Rose, will take listener’s inside the independent singer’s perspective in a male-dominated field. Additionally, Salute the Songbird will feature special guests including Ruby Amanfu, Mickey Guyton, Nicki Bluhm, Nancy Wilson, Jennifer Hartswick, Martina McBride, and many more artists and professionals from throughout the music industry.
Rose said of the podcast in a press release,
Working on this podcast has been a gift to me with the absence of touring this year because it has been a fantastic way to connect with the musicians I so admire who I might otherwise run into while on the road, providing me a way to maintain and make new connections that I moved to Nashville to create. And, most importantly I get to pay tribute to my inspirations and shine a light on artists whom I feel the world should know. As a musician myself, I am sympathetic to the fact that every one of my guests has worked so hard to forge their path, but I also learn something new and valuable with each conversation.

In her song, “20/20”, Rose opts for the bleak, contemplative analysis of a bygone year. While a thrash metal, fist-pounding heavy song may also have been an appropriate route, this approach plays much more to her strengths. It also prompts the listener to sit back and take stock of the year 2020 while focusing not on one emotion—be it rage or sadness—but rather, the whole mental spectrum.
Halfway through, things shift as Rose gets up from the piano and exits the studio. This fourth wall breach comes to a close as she walks on down the hall and joins her band in a different room. With a full backing band and away from her grand piano, the song gets a breath of new life that is tinged with an air of optimism about the future, rather than the pessimism of the past.
