Magic Beans took the stage at Denver’s Knew Conscious as the latest installment of the Alive from Knew Conscious series on Friday. The Colorado-bred band streamed the limited-capacity concert in full for their fans on Facebook.
This past weekend also saw performances from Luke the Knife with LubeJob at the Denver art gallery and concert venue. Past editions of the Alive from Knew Conscious series have also hosted Random Rab, Break Science, Atomga, Cycles, Dead Phish Orchestra, and many more as the venue remains closed to concert-goers.
Magic Beans’ two-set performance kicked off with “Getaway”, followed by “Do Your Thing” from 2018’s Casino Cabaret. Things started to get going with the instrumental “Five Points” which took an unexpected turn right into a cover of The Police‘s “Message In A Bottle”, sung by bassist Chris Duffy. Out of “Message In A Bottle” the Beans returned to their own catalog with “Kid Rocket”, which inspired a healthy jam that ultimately led into a set-closing “Gefiltefunk”.
Returning to the stage for set two, the Beans opened up with a “Contraband” into “Alibi” segue. An unassuming “Hello” then led into the band’s debut take on Janet Jackson‘s “Together Again”, which ultimately led back into “Hello” for a filling jam sandwich. The covers still weren’t finished, however, as the original “Evil Eye” transitioned into “Never There” by Cake. Things came to a satisfying conclusion as “Never There” led to a reprise of the set-opening “Contraband” to bring the second frame to a close. Returning to the stage one last time, Magic Beans fired up “Feed The Beast”, which would ultimately go unfinished and segue into a show-closing “To Hell We Ride”.
