On Thursday, Colorado’s own Magic Beans opened up their 2019 spring tour with a stop at The Bootleg at Atomic Cowboy in St. Louis, MO.

Magic Beans opened up their show with a heavy-hitter combo of “As You Like It” into “Here On Out”, with bassist Chris Duffy and drummer Cody Wales locking into a tight-knit groove. Guitarist Scott Hachey and keyboardist Casey Russell traded off explosive solos before moving forward with “Always Cool”.

Ahead of Thursday’s show, Magic Beans noticed that their close friend and musical compadre Andy Frasco was in town to join comedian Todd Glass for his stand-up set. Midway through their set, the four-piece rock powerhouse noticed that Frasco walked in the door of the venue and immediately invited him on stage for a cover of Talking Head‘s “Girlfriend Is Better”. Frasco started conducting the quartet, as he hopped about the stage with a microphone in hand. Moving back into their usual four-piece arrangement, Magic Beans rounded out their main frame with “Do Your Thing” and “Inventor”. Following a brief moment to catch their breaths, the band reemerged to offer up a two-song encore with a cover of Al Green‘s “Take Me To The River” and their own “Off Leash”.

Scott Hachey shared his thoughts on the funky collaboration. He explains,

You never know what’s going to happen when Andy Frasco gets on your stage, but you know it’s going to turn up.
