Marco Benevento graced the stage this past weekend at Levon Helm Studios in his home of Woodstock, NY for a two-night run. The Friday and Saturday concerts at the intimate venue owned by the late drummer of The Band came ahead of the release of a new music video for “At The End Or The Beginning”, published on Wednesday.
The two-night run of concerts at the 200-person capacity venue saw opening support from Marco’s Joe Russo’s Almost Dead bandmate Scott Metzger, who performed acoustic solo sets. Benevento was joined by his musical compatriots Karina Rykman (bass) and Dave Butler (drums) for a career-spanning pair of shows. Saturday’s concert saw a paired-down stage presence as Marco chose to forgo his typical Beetlejuice-esque sportcoat and tophat in favor of a relaxed wardrobe. Additionally, gone were the trademark matching “We’re Using Time For Fun” shirts, replaced instead by white t-shirts affixed with star patterns.
Last Wednesday welcomed the release of Marco’s first new solo single since 2019 with “At The End Or The Beginning”. The prescient song places the devastating events of the past year-and-a-half and frames them within the pianist’s iconic industrial pop-jam candor. This Wednesday, Benevento added to the project with the release of an animated video that paints a pandemic picture book. The pianist has not officially announced a new album but has said he is “putting the finishing touches” on a new LP to come in 2022.
