Marco Benevento returned on Wednesday with his first release of 2022, “Winter Rose”. The track comes from a yet-untitled album set for release this summer and follows the lead single “At The End Or The Beginning“.

“Winter Rose” once again hears Benevento collaborating with Al Howard as he did on “At The End Or The Beginning”. The San Diego-based lyricist and poet brings poignant verbiage to Benevento’s interminably upbeat composition with the refrain, “If every thorn came with a winter rose, then everything was worth it, yes, I suppose.” Emerging from the solace that was the past two years, Benevento is armed with a celebration of the light ahead rather than the darkness behind.

The new track finds the Joe Russo’s Almost Dead keyboardist manning all of the instruments with the exception of African percussion courtesy of Mamadouba ‘Mimo’ Camara. Marco will rejoin his bandmates Karina Rykman (bass) and David “DB” Butler (drums) for shows in Ardmore, PA (2/25) and Washington, D.C. (2/26). See below for a full list of tour dates.

Marco Benevento – “Winter Rose”

“Winter Rose” Lyrics

I saw the teardrop hit the windowpane
Even though I know we need the rain
I thought the sun could pry me from this pose
Well, I was wrong about that

If every thorn came
With a winter rose
Then everything was worth it
Yes, I suppose

While I slept away
They burned the city down
And I can read the panic in the braille
Even as my senses fail

If every thorn came
With a winter rose
Then everything was worth it
Yes, I suppose

If every thorn came
With a winter rose
Then everything was worth it
Yes, I suppose
