Margo Price appeared on Friday’s episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to offer a stirring performance of “Hey Child”. The singer-songwriter also announced a forthcoming live EP, Live From The Other Side.

Performing alongside a talented stable of backup singers Adia Victoria, Allison Russell, Kam Franklin, and Kyshona Armstrong, Price delivers an evocative rendition of the That’s How Rumors Get Started centerpiece. Though the song itself confronts Price’s devastating experience of losing her son Ezra, “Hey Child” is a cathartic release of pain and trauma. It is only fitting that this served as Price’s first post-vaccination musical outing, as she—much like the rest of us—tries to put nearly a year and a half of pandemic-induced lost time behind her.

As for the Live From The Other Side EP, it will host the live version of “Hey Child”, as well as a new Tina Turner-inspired rendition of The Beatles‘ “Help” featuring the same crew of backup singers from The Late Show. The EP, due out on July 16th via Loma Vista Recordings, will also feature a new solo arrangement of “That’s How Rumors Get Started”.

“So much has happened since I released That’s How Rumors Get Started into the world in 2020,” Price said in a statement. “I hope it kept you warm during those cold, lonely nights. Some things changed for the better, some for the worse. I know I am stronger and wiser than before but there is also an innocence lost, a naivety that we will never have back. When I think of the carefree moments of the old days, I wish I had enjoyed it more but ignorance is bliss, isn’t it?!”
